The Card & Coin kit is a special set of multi-use playing cards and coins.
The physical edition can be preordered here.

This page is dedicated to the digital edition of the kit which features the following:

  • The Full Color set of playing cards (54)
  • The Full Color PDF of Card & Coin: Vol 1
  • The Full Color PDF of boards and coins included in the kit.

The [Metal] edition of Card & Coin are the images you see above. In the future we hope to release a [Wood] edition which will add to the components above.

Vol 1 features 4 games that play 1-4 players using the [metal] edition of the kit.

The four games are:

  1. Kin Kādo. A 9 round twist on poker. No more endless checking and odds to track. Here you can buy and sell cards to build up hands over several rounds. Run out of cash? That's ok, there's no more player elimination! You can always jump back in. Get the long poker experience in a much shorter time frame.
  2. Ranchin. A space wrangling trick-taking game. The tricks you play determine your actions for the round. Win the trick for a Major action, lose the trick for a Minor action. (Sometimes losing is preferred here!) Park the most valuable ships in 18 tricks to win!
  3. Bizmess. A stock and client managing trick-taking game. Convince your clients to buy the stocks your slinging. Manipulate the market. Keep demand up but be sneaky about it. When a stock is touched too much, it loses demand. The player who earned the most cash wins.
  4. Twinsy. A trick-taking game where players race to accomplish 1 of 3 objectives before the other players. Claim the most spaces on the grid, collect a set of cards (1-5) or Race across the Shape Track first. You win more actions by playing pairs of the same suit. But this is tricky because you can't follow with a suit that has been played this round. Every card matters!

All four games above have a solo mode!! You'll face off against Alora, an AI God who usually follows most of the rules, but is often up to her own tricks. She brings a challenge to each of these games.

Vol 1 also features a glossary of card game terms you'll find in the rules of this book and for card games in general. We really wanted this kit to be approachable for folks just discovering the wonderful world of card games.

The digital edition here is included with the purchase of the physical edition.

This is an early look at the project. If you have any feedback please email me or message me on discord.

The hope for this project is to continue to expand on the rulebook, by adding games that I or the community designs (through game jam winners and such). We're calling that the Living Rulebook and it will be included here. We aim to eventually print physical editions of each volume (a set of 3-4 games) as they become polished.

One small note about printing the tokens. Our recommendation is to print those pages out on a full page sticker/label sheet. Place the sheet on a thin, but solid piece of cardboard you have laying around. Cut around the shapes then. To get a double sided token/board we left just enough gap so if you don't cut that, you can fold over the two piece of cardboard, gluing them together to create a double sided token. (It will help if you precut some tokens because of the shapes. )

Hinokodo has put a lot of thought and work into these and they're all extremely colour-accessible, which I appreciate quite a bit.
